I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. I did my PhD research at The New School for Social Research, where I also completed a graduate certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies.
I use ethnographic and interview methods to study work, gender and sexuality, and social class.
My current book project examines the flourishing yet stigmatized occupations of beauty and retail work in the context of Pakistan’s transition to a service economy and persisting taboos on women’s participation in the public sphere. My other research has explored working-class women's digital practices on TikTok in Pakistan.
You can read more about my research here and find me on Google Scholar.
I also discuss some of my research on the workplace as a type of public space on this podcast for Failed Architecture.
